About the painting Ahmad used on the blog, it was painted between September to November (autumn), 1830, during the Revolution, when the people rose and fought for their liberty. The artist, Delacroix, was unable to fight for the country so he painted the La Liberté guidant le peuple as a political poster for the revolution to celebrate the day the people rose and fought for the liberty of their country. Delacroix was a member of the National Gaurd, and he placed himself into the picture as the man wearing a top-hat, standing behind the woman.

The woman holding the tricolore flag of france is Marianne, a national emblem of the French Republic, is, by extension, an allegory of Liberty and Reason. She represents France as a state, and its values (as opposed to the "Gallic rooster" representing France as a nation and its history, land and culture). She is displayed in many places in France and holds a place of honour in town halls and law courts. She symbolises the "Triumph of the Republic", a bronze sculpture overlooking the Place de la Nation in Paris. Her profile stands out on the official seal of the country, is engraved on French euro coins and appears on French postage stamps; it also was featured on the former franc currency. Marianne is one of the most prominent symbols of the French Republic.

Delacroix used Marrianne to represent a person who speaks up in the open for the cause of liberty. Marrianne is also the inspiration of the statue of liberty. She is used to be criticised as an ignoble and robust woman.

as for the usage Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends by the British group Coldplay, (Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends means directly "Viva Emptied It gold Death and All His Friends")

So no doubts about La Liberté guidant le peuple's credentials right? sorry about the horrible exchange of words...
